Hang Your Medals

Standing in Kitchen Angels line one day, Steve was wearing his Portland Marathon shirt,
and a woman began a conversation with him about racing. She told him that when her
father passed away she had found a drawer full of medals and had no idea what to do with
them. Having had the same problem with his own medals, her dilemma sparked an idea. We
all need to celebrate our achievements. We need to remind ourselves of what we have
accomplished, and medals thrown in a drawer is no way to do so. Steve brought together his
two closest friends, Michael, a well known accomplished artist, and Jane, a computer genius
(well, not really!) and they put their heads together to come up with something spectacular.
Then Michael, took all the ideas even further and carved an amazing original piece that is just
beautiful. We are really proud of this sculpture and feel that it offers us, and you, a way to show
off what you have accomplished, but most of all, to remind yourself everyday to keep reaching
for the next one. We hope you will share your race pictures with us, and how you choose
to display your medal, and we will post them in our gallery. Embody your achievement!

The starting point of all achievement is desire.

Napoleon Hill

If we did all the things we are capable of,
we would literally astound ourselves.

Thomas Edison

If you really want to do something, you’ll find a way.
If you don’t, you’ll find an excuse.

Jim Rohn

Happiness does not come from doing easy work
but from the afterglow of satisfaction that comes
after the achievement of a difficult task
that demanded our best.
